The attempt took place around 11:12 p.m., Sunday, July 14, when the young woman was walking on Alfred Street, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.
The woman said the man flagged her down and then attempted to get her to agree to enter his vehicle, Jones said.
After refusing, the woman went home and told her mother who then contacted the police, he said.
Police responded to the area and through a search located Juan Quechol-Mecatl, 32, of Bridgeport, police said.
Police said the vehicle had misused license plates and Quechol-Mecatl was arrested.
He was charged with breach of peace and risk of injury and is being held on $25,000 bond.
The young woman was not injured.
